AN UNUSUAL AYNSLEY TOPOGRAPHICAL LOVING CUPearly 20th Century
Of cylindrical shape with twin entwined handles picked out in gilt, finely painted with views of Trentham Hall and Queens Park, Longton in Stoke-on-Trent, to oval reserves edged in gilt against a dark blue ground, inscribed in gilt to the base ‘Made by J Aynsley on his 76th Birthday’, 12.5cm painted titles and inscription

  • The J Aynsley of this piece is presumably John Aynlsey II who took over the business from his grandfather, the founder of the firm, and in 1861 established the successful Portland works in Longton exclsively for manufacturing bone china, a site still used by the company today.
